What was life like almost 200 years ago?

     You can find out about life at Shady Oaks Plantation Bed and

Breakfast  in Ansonville, North Carolina. This once-working

plantation originally spread over 1,500 acres from highway 52 (Old Plank Road) to the Pee Dee River, and produced tobacco and cotton. The current restoration includes the main house, the servants' quarters, a three-story barn, a large stocked pond, a hot tub, and a swimming pool plus numerous  outbuildings spread out over a beautiful tree-lined landscape.

     The majestic main house, built in 1832, includes six double bedrooms and two single bedrooms while the servants' quarters, dating from the early 1800's, house four efficiency units, each sleeping four people and an apartment with three beds. Another house, in the process of restoration, was used for curing and

storing meat products.
